Edward Maalouf

Constantly, Patiently, Successfully

After the great experience of Beijing 2008, I made it home… not very satisfied butproud and glad!

The last 2 months were very difficult: my brother accident, the hard preparation, the family life, my beautiful 2 kids, etc… Therefore, I should be glad with my results.

I was sure that I could do more though!

During my last race, I was in deep pain from my injury that I was about to give it up. My body simply wanted to stop but my mind and my heart wanted to persevere and keep fighting to the end.

After the medal ceremony I went straight to the hospital where the doctor explained how serious the injury was and instructed me not to leave my bed. Hence I flew back to the Netherlands on the 16th of September.

Having evaluated my performance and what I achieved, I believe 2 bronze Olympic medals were a great success, but something deep in me is still aiming for gold.

After all, I want to thank all the people who supported me particularly my 2 coaches Herman Vrijhof and Henk Ceelen who did great team work, and my team mate Vico Merklein who pushed me further in the last 2 months before the race. I also thank Dr. Ralf Lindschulten who followed me with the training programme with SRM system the best system that I’ve ever worked with.

I thank all those people who were behind scenes supporting me to achieve this wonderful success.

The BIG THANK YOU is for my sponsors NESTLE PURE LIFE and ACT FOR LEBANON who without them my dream would have been very difficult to reach. They believed in me and had faith that I would win. They motivated me and trusted me not to let them down. I send my high appreciation to Sunrise Medical who made my wonderful Handbike and SRM system who helped me all the way with my training. Not to forget Beirut marathon who followed me for the last 4 years, and especially Noes Fiolet, the gym where I was doing my fitness training.

Many thanks to all my friends, colleagues and family who sent me many many emails, showing their passion and support for what I was doing.

Great thanks and appreciation to the Lebanese Paralympic Committee for all what they’ve done for me – THANK YOU!

THANK YOU ALL and I hope you will follow me for the next coming 4 years, looking forward to being in even a better shape and condition to achieve higher results at the next Paralympic games.

Thanks to China and to the Chinese people’s hospitality who showed us how friendly they are and how good they can organise such a big event.
